Maintenance Technician

Position Summary:

The Maintenance Technician repairs and overhauls mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and performs and trouble calls on a variety of equipment.

Essential Functions:

The Maintenance Technician responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

* Checks and changes filters, vacuum breakers, valves, and P-Traps, makes modifications to plumbing systems, installs piping and fittings using approved procedures

* Performs electrical wiring testing and repairs

* Follows up on preventative maintenance schedule and related work to assure proper functioning of equipment

* Assesses safety hazards in the various hospital areas, corrects or recommends to supervisor the correction of hazards identified

Accountability:

The Maintenance Technician reports to the Director Facility Services and Team Lead.

Required Physical Demands (Subject to Reasonable Accommodation):

Keyboarding/Dexterity: Occasionally; activity exists up to 1/3 of the time
Standing/Walking: Frequently; activity exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time
Strength (Lift/Carry/Push/Pull): Very Heavy (Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects)
Talking (Must be able to effectively communicate verbally): Yes
Seeing: Yes
Hearing: Yes
Color Acuity (Must be able to distinguish and identify colors): No

Must be able to speak, read and write English neatly and legibly. Walks and stands most of the time. Requires frequent walking, kneeling, bending, crouching, reaching above shoulder, lifting up to 100 lbs. Push loads up 480 lbs (equipment cart); climb up to 5 flights of stairs per day. Must climb ladders.

Environmental Conditions:

Subject to burns from hot water pipes and electrical wiring, cramp quarters, working under adverse conditions. Work environment includes exposure to heat and cold and other weather elements, and to violent or combative patients, visitors and employees.

Qualifications:


* High School diploma or equivalent

* Knowledge to repair numerous types of equipment and/or general building and cabinet repairs

* Experience working on building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems preferred

* Must be able to communicate effectively in English
