Position Summary:

The Health Information Technician is responsible for ensuring the completeness and availability of the legal medical record/designated record set through document imaging, deficiency management, disclosure management, and other HIM operations in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner. This position will also be responsible for providing and ensuring high quality customer service to both internal and external customers.

Essential Functions:

The Health Information Technician responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

* Accurately and efficiently processes requests for health information access and disclosure in compliance with HIPAA and other federal and state statutes as well as organizational policies and standard operating procedures.

* Accurately and efficiently performs clinical document imaging processes such as scanning, indexing, and quality assurance to ensure information in the electronic medical record is accurate, complete, and available.

* Analyzes clinical and demographic content of medical records to determine completeness, data integrity, and compliance with hospital rules and regulations, federal and state statutes, and requirements of other regulatory agencies including CMS, Joint Commission, and Oklahoma State Health Department. Assigns and updates documentation deficiencies as appropriate in accordance with departmental and other guidelines as referenced above.

* Assist medical staff with medical record completion as well as other health information management needs.

* Provides knowledgeable and competent customer service and uses various tools and information systems to facilitate the process. This may include in-person as well as remote interaction such as telephone or secure messaging.

* Rounds to patient care areas to pick up paper records or facilitates receipt of records.

* Responsible for the maintenance of the document imaging equipment.

* May perform the birth certificate process including data entry into State Department of Vital Statistics software and assistance with forms completion.

The Health Information Technician reports to the Manager of Health Information

Environmental Conditions:

Sedentary position. Must be able to handle high volume of telephone calls and customer activity. Accountable for production deadlines while maintaining high accuracy. May be interrupted to respond to customers or change work tasks based on departmental needs. May be required to flex hours and work overtime.

Qualifications:


* High School Diploma or equivalent

* Health information management or related experience preferred

* Knowledge and understanding of clinical processes and healthcare operations

* Previous experience with Health language literacy with ability to locate and interpret information on forms, documents, and other sources within clinical information systems

* Previous experience with computer systems EHR information systems

* Previous customer service experience

* Must be able to communicate effectively in English
